To be a surrealist means barring from your mind all remembrance of what you have seen, and being always on the lookout for what has never been.

I did a thing! I designed this for editorial practice (I designed this as a cover for New Scientists April 24th 2010 issue) I’m pretty happy with how this turned out. The version I made for the cover had a white background, but I think this dark space-like background works better when the image is presented on its own. There is a lot of creatures (some that may not even exist) as part of the cover, about 60 in total I think - then they are repeated a couple of times as discreetly as possible - I’m not sure how many creatures this is made from in total, maybe 150 perhaps? The late addition of the human being just off centre gives the image a focus that It lacked beforehand.

Omg want

Nothing in the world can bother you as much as your own mind, I tell you. In fact, others seem to be bothering you, but it is not others, it is your own mind.

Driving down to Croatia from Venice we had planned on following the coast route. Once we passed through Slovenia we looked at a map and noticed we weren’t actually that far from Plitvice Lakes National Park. Thought it would be worth a visit!

Plitvice NP is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located in eastern Croatia close to the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. A series of 16 lakes separated by stunning cascades and water so clear you can see every single leaf that’s fallen to the bottom. There are paths between the lakes where visitors can walk and it’s also possible to catch a boat in several places. Unfortunately, during our visit to Plitvice Lakes it rained the entire time! So walking around was not as enjoyable as it would have been if the sun was out. But it’s easy to see why this National Park is Croatia’s most popular!

A vertical forest is expected to be completed this year in Milan. There are two tower apartment complexes which contain a total of 400 residential units. The facade of the buildings will be covered with 730 trees, 5,000 shrubs, and 11,000 perennial plants. It is expected to have the same ecological impact as 10,000 square meters of forest.

Aside from fighting smog and producing oxygen, the foliage is expected to provide insulation to the residential units.
